United Way of Chennai will be supporting their first set of projects with two NGOs as follows:
Nalanda Way: They work with the underprivileged children and juveniles delinquents in particular. For UWC they will be having an integrated program where in 50 children from the children’s home will be vocationally trained and placed in corporate sectors. This will prevent the children from further crimes and lead them to a quality life.
AVAZ is India’s first commercially available Augmentative and Alternative Communication — AAC — device. It enables people with disabilities like cerebral palsy, autism, mental retardation and speech disorders to communicate. AVAZ converts limited muscle movements into speech. Five devices will be supported by UWC to benefit the spastic children.
