Vasantham, is a special school and home for people with special needs (intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, cerebral palsy). With the mission statement of Vasantham ‘Challenge the Challenges’, Vasantham empowers people with special needs of all age ranges and their families to be as independent as possible. Vasantham provides special education, speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, vocational training, play, yoga, dance and music therapies. These services are provided by professionals trained to handle children and adults with special needs. Adults with special needs at Vasantham are trained on specific skills such as weaving, making jute and fabric bags, candles, painting, book marks, paper cups and so on.
Adolescents and adults with a special needs at Vasantham are involved in skill development through weaving, making bags, folders wallets through jute and fabric; making candles; accessories; packing and selling provision items etc. Currently these products are available for sale in Vasantham's campus and when there is a day stall at companies and events. With several places for gathering around Vasantham's premises, couple of push carts (thallu vandi) which can be taken aorund the premises will facilitate communication, socialisation and skill development in these individuals with special needs. Currently a few of them are skilled enough to handle accounts as well. These not just train them on skills but is also therapeutic in keeping them calm and focused.
Vasantham caters to 134 individuals with special needs and 30+ staff members, among which 60 of them use the residential facilities as well. Considering the electric power consumed by these individuals for classroom, residential and domestic purposes, and being eco friendly, installation of solar power unit for 5kw will be beneficial.
Empowering 40-60 adolescents and adults with special needs at Vasantham through vocational push cart unit and 134 + people with special needs through solar power unit.
