Make A Difference (MAD) is a youth driven non-profit organization working to ensure equitable outcomes for children in orphanages and street shelters. Registered as a non-profit in 2006, Make A Difference reaches out to over 3,460 children in 67 shelters across 23 cities in India, through a highly efficient 4,250 strong volunteer network. Volunteers commit a year and spend between 2 and 10 hours every week mentoring, teaching and interacting with children in order to ensure that they get the support and care they need during childhood. Our real goal is for children we work with to end up on par with a stable middle class demographic that allows us to break the cycle of poverty and abandonment.
Transition Readiness & Aftercare enables children to build their career paths that are in sync with their interests and is aimed at those who are poised to pass out from shelter homes. By providing targeted career counseling, help with legal documentation when needed, focused subject support, sessions on day to day skills, facilitating college admissions/ getting jobs/ vocational training along with financial support, this project aims to plug a number of gaps and thereby enable children to follow their chosen career paths.
Through this project, 90% of high school youth leaving our shelters have been placed in colleges, jobs or vocational training. If that target is achieved, then we can completely support the Chennai youth under our program
