After having served at Akanksha as Founding member and CEO for Akanksha for about 20 years, Shaheen Mistri, met with Wendy Kopp, CEO and Founder of Teach For America to discuss the feasibility of adapting the Teach For America's model to the Indian context. After a twelve week study turned out favourably, Teach To Lead was formally established in 2008. Teach To Lead is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to create a movement of leaders who will work to eliminate educational inequity in the country.
Teach For India, a project of Teach To Lead, is a nationwide movement of outstanding college graduates and young professionals who will commit two-years to teach full-time in under resourced schools and who will become lifelong leaders working from within various sectors towards the pursuit of equity in education.
