Against All Odds
We met Miranda, a visually challenged student at National Institute for Empowerment of People with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD). He had just completed his Master’s degree in Special Education. A rare genetic disorder had resulted in him becoming deaf. Being deaf and blind seemed like an end to his dream of pursuing his Ph.D and writing a book on disability.
We presented Miranda with an assistive device that converts typed words into braille script, a Braille Edge 40. Now Miranda is determined to complete his Ph.D. He told us, “This device makes it possible for me to reconnect with the world. I have decided to start my work on a book on disability.” We hope he becomes a best-selling author.
The primary goal of UWC is to empower the differently abled. Helping them with quality assistive devices levels the playing ground and enables them to achieve their full potential.
